Feeding Extra Guests this Thanksgiving


When planning thanksgiving dinner it can often be considered an all day event and task. While this is true it is best to remember that there may be a possibility of extra guests this Thanksgiving day. Whether it is from people bringing over a friend or date, or a family member who forgot to RSVP, there may be extra mouths to feed. The best way to avoid not having enough food is by making extra food for those possible extra mouths.

Make a double batch of items that you know will be an item that will be eaten a lot of, such as macaroni salad, fruit salad, or ambrosia. These items are often a hit with the family or friends at the Thanksgiving dinner. Since these items often call for specific amounts of food, doubling or tripling these recipes can be done quite easily with ease.

Precooking meal items such as chili or baked pasta dishes for the thanksgiving dinner is also a way to be more prepared for extra guests. By making these items in advance in double batches, one stored in the fridge, and the other on the table. This way, if you notice the item is running low heating it up in the oven or microwave is a terrific way to make guests happy and keep the good food coming.

While having a full dinner table and extra desserts is always a great idea, having snack foods for those pre-dinner grazers is an easy way to keep extra guests from going hungry. Having items such as vegetables and ranch dip, hummus and pita bread or even dinner rolls can be an easy way to add some fun snacks to the Thanksgiving day.

For deserts items and thanksgiving favorites such as pumpkin pie,cherry pie or stuffing, it never hurts to have extra. For pies pick up another one or make an extra from the store to keep on hand in the freezer. These items are perfect to have extra seeing as they are often the ones that are consumed the most.

Most importantly when it comes to feeding extra guests making sure that there are enough placemats and extra plates is also an important thing to keep in mind. Even if the plates are paper plates and paper napkins, these are a cheap and easy way to keep extra dishes on hand in case there are any extra visitors.

As it was mentioned above feeding extra guests this thanksgiving can be done in a few simple steps. Remember Thanksgiving is the time of year to be thankful and feel blessed by those who love us and would like to be included in a holiday celebration.
