*UPDATE ON BOOTS*
Surgery went well and they have cleaned her abscess out. She now has to wear this cone on her head for 2 weeks until it's completely healed. In three days I have to take her to get her drain out, and during the next two weeks keep an eye on the healing process and only feed her 1/3 of what I feed and water her normally. She's going to be a sad kitty since she has to be an indoor cat, but I think I might just make her one for good after that so things like this don't happen again. Poor little cutie pie.
Baring Veterinary and all of their staff were my saviors today. My poor cat Boots was home alone when an abscess that she had burst because it was infected. I had no idea that she had one, because she's so fluffy from being a long haired cat. I came home to some awfulness. Warning, if you're queasy or can't stomach wounds than I wouldn't look at the following pictures.
They were so great at the place that I am glad I was able to bring her in. Since I don't drive, my friends who happened to be hanging out both rushed me and Boots to the clinic before they closed so we could get her taken care of. They are keeping my little girl over night and taking care of her in the morning. They're going to sedate her, stitch her up, and give her antibiotics. I also have to go tomorrow to pick up some baby booties to put on her paws so she can't scratch her stitches out. Due to where the abscess was, they can't put a cone on her head.
I am so grateful I have such wonderful friends and family in my life that love me and Boots. <3 I'll keep everyone updated as her progress comes along, and I'll even take a picture of her in her booties if I can get some. She's my pride and joy (she's like my kid, ya know) and I love her to pieces.
Luckily, she will only be in there for a night and they said she should recover easily with the antibiotics they give her. It also didn't cost as much as I had expected it to. I'm glad I still had some tax return money left so I could cover almost all of it. My friend Eric is going to help me cover the rest. <3
I've put a bunch of useless periods and SCROLL DOWN so that you can avoid the pictures entirely if you want to and just comment with your thoughts.
After talking with my Mom, and my friends Kiki and Eric, we all agreed she needed to be seen.
He was holding her for me 'cause Boots loves Eric (and towels)
They had to keep her over night which made me sad. I had no idea that was under her fur or I would have had her seen WAY earlier before this happened. Poor little Boots.

Here's what I came home to in the bathroom.
So I freaked out and immediately checked my kitty out.
After talking with my Mom, and my friends Kiki and Eric, we all agreed she needed to be seen.

They shaved her up and here's what they found underneath the fur. :(

I'm so glad that your cat is doing well. Our pets really are like members of the family.
ReplyDeleteThey really are. We have a dog and he is like one of my kids.
DeletePoor Boots! I would have freaked out, too. It's crazy how much their fur can hide.
ReplyDeleteAww poor baby. That looks really nasty and I'm glad you got her help.
ReplyDeletePoor Boots! Glad to hear that Boots is on the mend. Pets are so special.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Poor Boots! That's horrible! Did the vet say what might have caused this? Was it a fight, maybe? I'm so glad your cutie pie is doing well!
ReplyDeleteThey said it may have been from a fight, a scratch from something outside. Basically they said it's very common in indoor/outdoor kitties. They also suggested maybe I kept her as an inside cat from now on if I'm concerned about it happening again.
DeleteOh my goodness, poor baby! And the cone of shame (my CoCo DESPISES the cone of shame). Hopefully she recovers quickly!
ReplyDeleteI hate seeing animals with the cone. Hope your kitty is doing better.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I didn't read your 'if your queasy' message until AFTER I saw the pictures. Ha ha. Glad your cat is better.
ReplyDeletePoor boots. This is frightening. I am glad your cat is better
ReplyDeleteYikes Poor Boots, sounds super painful! Hope Boots is on the mend!

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I'm so glad you caught it. I hope Boots is back to 100% soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning. I had to scroll past the pictures really quickly. I'm glad your cat received such good care and is recovering.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Poor baby! Glad she got some good treatment and is currently on the mend!
ReplyDeleteHow scary! She is such a sweetie. So glad they took good care of her.
ReplyDeleteOMG... I'm so sorry that happened to your cat, but I'm happy that you were able to get her the help she needed. I'm glad they took good care of her and she's on the mend. Sending happy and healthy healing vibes to sweet Boots. <3
ReplyDeletePoor baby So glad that you found quality medical care for your baby. I would have been a basket case.
ReplyDeleteOh no, that looks painful for her. I'm so glad it's all taken care of now. My sisters cat would sneak out, and get into fights. He had something similar happen, but she caught it earlier since he isn't so fluffy
ReplyDeleteYour poor cat, the same happened to mine a long time ago; he cut his foot on something and tracked bloood all over the house; I freaked out!
ReplyDeleteOh, poor baby. I hope she has a quick recovery. It's so heartbreaking to see an animal in pain.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your sweet kitty. I hope she recovers soon.
ReplyDeleteEstelle

ReplyDeleteOh poor thing! I hope everyone is better soon!
ReplyDeleteAw poor little sweetie. I hope she's better and back home soon.
ReplyDeleteOh no! I hope she will be bs k to herself soon.
ReplyDeleteomg poor boots! that would be so scary to come home to. luckily, our cats have only had dental issues so far.. but they're getting older and older cats always have other health issues.
ReplyDeleteAww poor kitty! Now it makes me want to check my long haired kitten to make sure she's okay!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww, bless your cat. I'm glad you're taking care of your sweet baby.
ReplyDeleteYour poor baby! So glad to hear that she is doing better.
