Five must see Halloween Films

Halloween is a time filled with laughter, joy and trick or treating. With that in mind, sometimes it is nice as a single person or a family to stay in and have a movie night. Popular Halloween films, both classic and new, can be viewed during Halloween or at any time of the year. These five films can be found online, at a local movie shop, or available through iTunes.



*The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!*

This Halloween classic involves Peanuts favorites, Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy and Sally. In this tale Linus searches for The Great Pumpkin, and hopes to prove to the other kids that he does exist. Meanwhile Charlie Brown is invited off to a Halloween party by a friend, Peppermint Patty.

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” was debuted in 1966 written by Charles M. Schulz. It is a short film of about 25 minutes that the whole family will enjoy. Truly a classic, this TV film short, is a surefire hit for any Halloween movie night.





*Ernest Scared Stupid*
Rated PG, this film starring Jim Varney as Ernest, follows the story of a neighborhood man who lands himself in to trouble after he decides to build a tree house for the neighborhoods children. When he digs up a troll who hates all children and curses them by turning them in to sculptures, Ernest must figure out how to help the children.A goofy Halloween film, this movie is bound to be a hit for the family.


*Halloween*
The Halloween series starring Jamie Lee Curtis is classic. Whether it is the first film in the set or the last, the series is serial killer frenzy. Jamie Lee Curtis plays Lorie Strode a sibling to Michael Myers and a constant reminder of a brutal past that must escape. This series will make the perfect all night movie marathon event for the evening.

*Casper*
This family classic stars Christina Ricci as a young girl who moves into a mansion with her father. As she begins to adjust to the new home, she meets a new friend, Casper. Casper is a fun spirited ghost who haunts the mansion with his not so friendly, prankster, uncles. This film is a heartfelt story involving love, friendship and the power of believing in right and wrong.

*Hocus Pocus*
One of my personal favorites, Hocus Pocus (1993) should always be on a list of popular Halloween films. Starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy as a coven of three witches striving for their powers and the beauty to stay young, once awakened from a curse. To stay young, they need the essence of young children.

This witch tale is a fun and tremendous nineties film that the whole family can enjoy. No matter the age of a child or parents this fun film involves a few singing moments, and a variety of fun loving characters and an adorable talking black cat, Binx.

These five films make for a spectacularly spooky Halloween movie marathon. Before making a selection on what movies to watch this Halloween with the family, it is always important to preview the movies and make a decision. The Halloween series may not be appropriate for younger children.
